U17 Walsh Cup - Wilton 1 Corkbeg 3
Corkbeg U17's got their season under way on Saturday morning with a very impressive 3-1 victory away to a very strong fit Wilton side in the Gussie Walsh Cup.
Corkbeg started the game with an all out attack attitude and bombarded the Wilton goal with chance after chance . Wiltons goalkeeper was in top form and saved brilliantly from Josh McCarthy, Jake Morrisey and Matt Warne.
Cillian Burke made a great save from a rare Wilton break midway through the first half. It was all Corkbeg in the first half and the hard work paid off on the half hour mark, when there was a hand ball in the Wilton box , ref played advantage, then Josh was was fouled when he was about to shoot...penalty.
Up stepped Jamie Walsh : 1-0 the Beg.
Corkbeg kept up the pressure and just before the half time whistle , brilliant short passing from the back , through the middle and Josh found himself 1v1 with the keeper and slotted it home . 2-0 at the break.
Second half and again Corkbeg started the way they finished the 1st half and a few minutes in, Josh rifled a shot past the keeper into the both left corner . 3 -0
The Beg sat back a little for a 15 minute period and Wilton took advantage of a very rare defensive mistake and pulled a goal back and soon after that, Cillian Burke again made a fantastic save from a 1v1.
Corkbeg battled on to see out the 90mins and it finished: Corkbeg 3 Wilton 1.
